Every photographer dreams of putting his or her images to good commercial use. Timm made numerous attempts at this with photo postcards (where I got the phrase "Beauty heals" from) and, in 2003, a calendar.
Assembling his best images of Oregon, Timm decided to use an photo lab in South Korea to finalize the images because they were cheap. After numerous and almost comical problems getting the lab to deliver the transparencies, Timm had them published locally (I think.) Next came the job of marketing the calendars. Timm wrote press releases and harangued book and gift stores to carry the calendars. It was hard work and I don't think Timm made much money on the project, but the pictures are exquisite.
I came across the photo CD containing the images over the weekend as I was packing his archives into a more ordered storage. And here they are. I might have messed up the order of some of the images -- trying to fit them to a seasonal round -- so my apologies to Timm. Whatever the order, the photos reveal an Oregon heartland which would make an emigrant of just about anybody.
I understand that Timm was beginning to assemble another set of images for a coffee table book of Oregon photographs. Surely many of the images that have appeared here would have been intended for that work. Someday, such a book may yet appear ...
