A look of wonder and surprise

Here's Timm at the Lincoln Park Zoo at age 5 or so. The look of wonder and surprise on his face -- seeing perhaps, a gazelle or hippopotamus for the first time -- is one which Timm in later life would photograph again and again on other children's faces. A gaze which is always refreshed by the world.

The following photos pulled from Timm's archives are all from working gigs, taking pictures for Mount Angel Publishing at a Healthy Kids event in 2007, Fourth of July celebrations in Canby, the Silverton Art Festival and the Woodburn Fiesta. (The last shot is from a series titled "people outdoors -- Medford"). Kids aren't the only subject in these series, but in the ones that Timm focuses on kids, the looks he captures are intent, seriously at play, given over to wonder -- happy. It was a gift Timm could give back from the memory of his own childhood delight in the creation.
