A walk in the wild

Searching Timm’s laptop and hard drive for photos to use in a post on this memorial site is a little like hiking in the wilderness he so loved. You don’t know what you’ll find in the next folder, but are always rewarded for the search.

These images are from October of last year, discovered in folder labelled “Gorge Fall Color.” They are just a few of the autumn marvels Timm caught with his camera on those days.

The trick which Timm mastered in these pictures is capturing motion a living, breathing, pouring world inside the static, two-dimensional eye of the lens, and in a way that the entire world is sings through a single image.

Water pours down a mountain cliff in a silver-white gossamer, mountain melt tumbling, inexorably, towards the sea; tree leaves transform into fire as they ready to fall, become a vault of gold for he or she who would venture far enough to surrender their eyes to the wild.
Timm did, and we have these pictures as witness to that embrace.
