The following is from Timm's 1998 journal. I think it shows why Timm so embraced his photography -- his lens proved far more affirmative than his pen. His pictures have a sense of naked wonder and joy that his writings struggled to achieve. We are fortunate that he found a way to celebrate the presence of God in his life.

I still hear the command the Lord made to me almost 10 years ago when I came home from Hope Center, overwhelmed by the enormity of pain I had that day in six to seven one-on-one sessions, and upon entering my apartment saw the sunset picture I took at Daytona Beach and the Lord’s voice – “There is still beauty.”
It’s so easy as a Christian worker, or for that matter any believer, to be overwhelmed by the pain that dwells in a fallen world. We need to remember – there is still beauty!
I know that the beauty of nature or music, art or in whatever else I denote, that a sense of beauty ministers the presence of God & I feel refreshed. My spirit knows! I need laugher, joy, celebration, vacation, concerts, sunsets & meditation. Otherwise I become a cynical, rigid shell of pessimistic ramblings.
